Esperanza School sets high expectations for the academic achievement of all students and develops relevant individualized goals. These objectives are determined through assessments and by setting priorities based on core skills needed to achieve increasing levels of independence. These range from activities of daily living skills to grade-level academic instruction. In general, students fall into three levels of content and instruction for each subject:
Developmental/Life Skills
Functional academics
Grade-level academics
All students are assessed for mastery of skills and concepts at each level to ensure that there are no gaps in learning. For example, students who are reading at grade-level may still need to learn how to tell time or use money.
For examples of curriculum for each of the three general subject levels view our content of instruction informational flyer.
